Carlos Vega was born and raised on Cozumel Island.  Fishing runs through his blood and this wisdom has been passed down through generations of native Mayan fisherman.

His ancestors bestowed their knowledge of their sacred fishing grounds upon him and this was shared with him by his grandfather and father, who were the first lighthouse keepers on the island in the 1930's.

 

In 1975, he began Aquarius Travel Sport-fishing as a deep sea fishing boat owner and outfitter, but his real passion was flats fishing the mangrove lagoons and flats for bonefish, permit, tarpon and snook. From there, evolved his flats fishing business.  30 years ago he was taught the art of fly fishing while working at Ascension Bay (the famous Yucatan mangroves and sandy flats area) and added this skill to his outfitter business.


Over the years, Carlos has been featured in many major sports and fishing magazines, such as Florida Sport Fishing, Field & Stream, Cabela’s Outfitter, Fishing World, Salt Water Fly Fishing and The Florida Sportsman. Carlos has also appeared on many ESPN and other televised fishing shows.
